The Selma Arts Council

The Selma Arts Council serves as an advisory, investigative, fact-finding and production body formed by the Selma City Council to encourage, promote and celebrate the Arts in all their forms. The Selma Arts Council also works to promote use of the Cultural Arts Center as a resource for the community, and develop policies and standards for rental use of the facilities to insure usage does not detract from the image and preservation of the Arts.

The Cultural Arts Center

The Cultural Arts Center is home to a variety of programs offered through the Recreation and Community Services Department, Raisin Cain Players, Cool Kids Players and the Selma Arts Council. Recreation staff, Raisin Cain Players, Cool Kids Players and the Selma Arts Council continue to support, promote, develop and offer a variety of cultural experiences and programs to the community and the South Valley.

The Downtown Community Arts Center

Through the Selma Redevelopment Agency, the City of Selma recently purchased a building in the downtown business district that will be reconstructed into the new Arts Center. Presently, the Arts Center Ad Hoc Committee is preparing a budget for reconstruction to take before the Selma Arts Council and City Council. This will be quite a project that should have a very positive effect on the downtown business area. Grants and donations will soon be requested and any assistance is welcome. For information, you may call the Recreation and Community Services Department, (559) 891-2237.
